DStv Mobile Channels adjusted, premium package added

Posted on November 11, 2011

I was sent a press release from DStv mobile today around some changes to their channels and packages. They have split the channels into three packages:

  • Free : E! Entertainment, Channel O, SuperSport Blitz, The eNews Channel, CNNi
  • R36/Month : SuperSport 1,2,3,4, AfricaMagic, M-Net Series, SONYMax, Cartoon Network, Discovery
  • Premium : M-Net Mobile (Available only to DStv Premium subscribers at no subscription cost)

So the net effect is that Discovery has been added for all existing (R36/month) subscribers, and if you are a DStv Premium (R600+/month) subscriber you can now also have the new M-Net Mobile on your Drifta for free.

The M-Net mobile should be almost the same as the M-Net channel (except there will be no movies?), and will be available from 2pm to around 10:30pm each day.

There is no indication of whether M-Net Mobile will be available to non-premium subscribers for an extra fee at some stage.

The full press release is included below :

M-Net Mobile and Discovery channels launch on DStv Mobile

DStv Mobile announced today that critically acclaimed channel M-Net Mobile and the informative Discovery channel have been added to the DStv Mobile family of channels.

This effectively means that there are now three packages for DStv Mobile subscribers to choose from:

e.mobile – E! Entertainment, Channel O, SuperSport Blitz, The eNews Channel, CNNi – Free

DStv Mobile – SuperSport 1,2,3,4, AfricaMagic, M-Net Series, SONYMax, Cartoon Network, Discovery plus all channels in the e.mobile package – R36 per month.

DStv Mobile for Premium subscribers – all channels in the DStv Mobile package plus M-Net Mobile. Available to DStv Premium subscribers at no subscription cost.

“Getting the channels is a huge plus for DStv Mobile subscribers who have been vocal and specific about their content preferences. We strive to acquire content that consumers want to watch and happy to welcome M-Net Mobile and The Discovery Channel into the DStv Mobile family” commented Motheo Matsau Head of Sales and Marketing DStv Mobile.

The M-Net Mobile channel will replicate the satellite channel except where licencing does not allow, which currently pertains to movies. In such cases substitute programming will be scheduled. The M-Net Mobile channel is available from 14:00 and concludes between 22:30 and 23:00 daily.

M-Net Mobile gives subscribers access to M-Net’s award-winning series, current affairs and reality shows, whilst Discovery provides world-class documentary content to satisfy a broad spectrum of interests.

“We are pleased with the steady progress we have made in securing suitable content for a mobile environment. The current channel offering is diverse and impactful as there truly is something for everyone in the DStv Mobile line-up” said Aletta Alberts Head of Content MultiChoice.

The same great channels in the genres of sport, music, general entertainment, news and cartoons are available via all DStv Mobile capable devices. This includes the Drifta, the Drifta USB and various DVB-H enabled phones.

DStv Mobile coverage is available in the 9 major cities of South Africa. For network coverage, programming schedule and compatible device details visit www.dstvmobile.com.

      Hi Brilliant

You can’t pay extra for the premium package, noun must have a DSTV premium satellite subscription to take advantage of this.
