    Hi Jusitin
I am a final year assurance audit trainee and i am so interested in shifting to IT audit after my articles. In that regard, i am planning to write CISA this year. I would like to know when and where you hold tutorials. You are in my backyard so i have to utilise your expirience to nail this exam

Hi Clever, thanks for the note, unfortunately I am in Jhb now. Get hold of Thumi (ISACA SA) and / or Raniel (KZN Chapter Co-ordinator) and they will be able to help get you connected to the KZN chapter and hopefully some other CISA writers.

All the Android devices check in with the DSTVmobile server to confirm they are legitimate devices. A real pain indeed but that is the way it is. Doesn’t happen with PC or with iOS devices.

Do you have a current link for the resizer app for the Drifta; all the links I have accessed are broken.

        Thanks

    Hi Justin,
I am wanting to buy a Kindle, Please can you advise which will be the best one to go for? I want it to be able to download from anywhere so I want one that have 3G. I’ve looked at the Kindle Fire HD 8Gb but it does not look like it have 3G…… I can always download my e-books to my Laptop and then use USB……..but I am willing to spend because I see this as an investment.

    Please can you advise?

      Hi Riaan

The kindle fire is as much a tablet intended for web browsing and multi media consumption (movies, videos, music) as for reading.

I would look carefully at one of these as you won’t be able to take advantage of lots of these features, they aren’t available to Amazon users in SA. Also it is wifi only.

If you primarily want an e book reader then one of the ePaper type devices will be much more suitable. They are also cheaper and you can get the 3G version.

I don’t use my kindle much anymore, I do all my reading on my iPad. You can’t read in direct sunlight, so I do miss being able to read by the pool etc but that wasn’t my major use case.

Tell us a bit more about how you mainly want to use the device then we can figure out what is best for you.

      Hi Wayne
Tricky one. Your device is unlikely to be supported by the Drifta. Not sure why it thinks it’s rooted, unless the device was delivered rooted, which is a possibility. If you google around you may be able to find a hacked version of the software which will work on rooted devices and work on unsupported devices (if the devices are technically able).

Mail me if you dont come right.

Hi Justin, your website has helped me alot with DSTV mobile since December 2010. I just need help on the DVB-T aerials that are on sale at Hi Fi Corp. Google has been very unhelpful so I thought id rather get a pro involved… I have just purchased an HD LED tv, and was wondering if i buy the DVB-tv aerial, would i pick up proper TV channels (SABC), and would i be able to pick up the free to air DVB broadcasts, such as ETV News, SS Blitz, Channel O etc. was just wondering coz I need to buy an aerial so I can watch SABC on 1 tv, and have the DSTV on the other, both are connected to the DSTV decoder, but on single view…Please help. thanks alot.. Kevin.

      Hi Kevin

I am not sure as to what terrestrial digital signals are currently being broadcast. The DSTV mobile ones are severely constrained to very low resolutions so are all but useless on an HDTV. The new standard to replace the current analogue signals have yet to be finalised and I don’t think any are yet being broadcast, nor are the decoders needed to use them available. I haven’t researched this so these comments are just based on what I recall from having seen in the tech press.

Unless you have a specific need I would wait until things are more settled. I would also imagine prices would come down when there is a mass launch to the public.

      Hi Mari

From the details it looks like your pc is about 7 years old, but may just be able to cope. It looks like you don’t have the graphics driver installed for your graphics chip and are using the generic VGA driver which may explain the slow speed. I had a quick look on the AMD website but couldn’t find the explicit driver. The following are some possible matches

      http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pages/psearch.aspx?type=2.7&product=2.7.5.3.3

      http://driverscollection.com/?H=Radeon%20Xpress%201100

Try install the graphics driver and let me know if that helps.

      Regards
      Justin

Hi Justin.. I just have to say.. i think your advise is amazing! ๐Ÿ™‚ Finally my device is working like it should , and i can now watch some of the olympics at least.. Thank you very much. I installed the driver as per your second link and now things are 100%. If you perhaps have a tip as well on how to get the drifta to have a bigger picture .. that would be great ๐Ÿ™‚ But again, thank you. No one here in Namibia could help me… DSTV doesnt have alot of information, so i am very greatful. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚
